Kathy Griffin, one of the Hollywood stars who dished out significant cash to accused rapist Eric Swalwell, is now trying to distance herself from the failed politician.
Griffin, who gave $10,000 to the disgraced East Bay congressman’s bid for California governor, spilled on why she supported Swalwell — who was long rumored in political circles to have problems with women — claiming she believed only a straight, white man could win the race.
“Until this, I was actually supporting Swalwell,” Griffin admitted on her podcast, “Talk Your Head Off.”
Griffin was one of about 1,700 donors to Swalwell’s ill-fated run for California governor, a list that included multiple A-list celebs.
Actors Sean Penn and Robert De Niro, entertainment titan Ari Emaneul, talent agent Michael Kives and other showbix bigwigs poured tens of thousands apiece to prop up accused rapist Swalwell’s run at the governor’s mansion.
“We’re in this era where only freaking white straight guys can win. And so if he’s the one that’s most electable, we don’t want the two Republican challengers.”
Without naming them, Griffin labeled Republican candidates, former Fox News host Steven Hilton and Riverside Sheriff Chad Bianco, “crazy.”
“This has kinda rocked our world,” Griffin noted, adding the friends attended recent “No Kings” rallies together.
Griffin went on to praise her guest’s protest sign, which was a picture of shirtless Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. reading, “Ewwww.”
