Observations from Mets’ spring training on Sunday:
Four score
The makeshift Mets hit four home runs against Yankees pitching, with Jared Young, Luis Torrens, Hayden Senger and minor league utility player JT Schwartz all going deep — one day after the lineup was held to two hits in the Grapefruit League opener.
Slow starts
There may be a time in the not-too-distant future in which Carson Benge and Ryan Clifford are key parts of the Mets lineup.
The two went hitless in six combined at-bats in their first appearances in a Grapefruit League game.
Caught my eye
Pete Alonso homered again Sunday, this time against the Tigers.
It was the first baseman’s second homer in as many spring training games with the Orioles, who signed the ex-Met to a five-year, $155 million contract in the offseason.
Monday’s schedule
The first road trip of the spring continues when the Mets visit the Blue Jays at TD Ballpark in Dunedin, Fla. at 1:07 p.m.
Clay Holmes is set to make his spring debut in his second season as a starter.
