Yellowstone‘s Marshals appears to be deliberately shifting the dynamic between Kayce and Andrea.

During the Sunday, November 1, episode of the hit CBS series, Andrea (Ash Santos) visited Kayce’s (Luke Grimes) home after work, confiding in him about her PTSD. She ended up falling asleep on his couch — as he watched her.

“There’s little hints [about them] that are put in the script now with the writing,” Santos, 33, exclusively told Us about the show deliberately acknowledging the chemistry between the fictional couple. “There’s something that the both of them go through and it really makes them start questioning how they even feel.”

Santos elaborated on the potential vision for their story.

“I didn’t see it at first. When I first got the role, I didn’t realize and I really wanted to stay with that because I think it gets complicated when you’re playing a character if you know everything that’s going to happen in the future. It’s kind of nice to just let yourself be surprised as if it is your life,” she told Us. “So with Andrea and Kayce, the connection between them in season 2 grows even deeper because he is the only person that she truly lets in to what she’s learning about her father because she knows he’s the only one that can relate because he’s gone through the same thing with John Dutton.”

Kayce will be joining Andrea on an upcoming trip to New York, with Santos teasing, “And the way he volunteers to come to New York with her and really stands by her, she can really lean on him. That’s just so special for any friendship.”

She continued, “There’s a scene at the end of episode 15 that I won’t say anything about but we filmed it [recently] and the Manhattan skyline was in front of us and we were on the water and it was night time and we were under like the Brooklyn Bridge and I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is stunning! The fans are gonna love this.’”

Looking ahead, Santos is excited for the audience to see what will come next for the pair.

“I can’t speak for Luke but I think for me, when I play it, I’ve been really lucky with Luke. He is so tender-hearted and he is so genuine. He is an incredible scene partner because he’s always so honest and he brings so much depth to his work,” she gushed. “And we can really relate personally because we’re both parents and we’re both in beautiful relationships. Being able to then step into Kayce and Andrea just feels honest.”

Marshals airs on CBS Sundays at 8 p.m. ET before streaming the next day on Paramount+.
