Sammy Stafura is coming home.
The Mets acquired the Pirates’ No. 9 prospect for reliever Luke Weaver in a trade hours before Monday’s deadline, The Post’s Jon Heyman reported.
He’s the highest-rated player the Amazins’ have received so far at the deadline.
Stafura will slot in as the No. 10 prospect for the Mets and their No. 3 shortstop, just in front of Nick Morabito.
Stafura grew up in Cortlandt Manor, New York, playing for Walter Panas High School — just over an hour drive from Citi Field.
“I’m ready to get after it. I am one of the biggest Mets fans ever and will give the Mets everything I have,” Stafura told MLB.com after the trade .
At the time of the trade, he was playing for the High-A Greensboro Grasshoppers, where he was making a name for himself on both sides of the ball.
So far this season, Stafura has hit .276 with a .960 OPS, 54 RBIs and 20 home runs in 221 at-bats.
He’s also flashed elite speed, stealing at least 30 bases in both of his last two full seasons.
The 21-year-old has shown a lot of promise on the defensive end as well, with the Pirates a big fan of his “outstanding range, actions and instincts at the premium position,” according to MLB.com.
While playing shortstop for the Grasshoppers in 2026, Stafura has a .983 fielding percentage, 75 assists and 44 putouts.
On top of promising talent, Mets fans are getting one of their own.
Stafura publicly claimed “big-time” Mets fandom as recently as 11 months ago on the “North Shore Nine” YouTube channel.
He said his favorite player is former Met Brandon Nimmo because he “doesn’t let anything affect him” and has a really positive outlook on the sport.
Stafura added that he modeled his game as a kid after two other long-tenured Mets in David Wright and Jose Reyes.
While originally committed to play for Clemson, the shortstop was taken as a high schooler by the Reds in the second round of the 2023 MLB Draft.
He signed an over-slot bonus of $2.5 million before the Reds sent him to the Arizona Complex League.
Stafura went to the Pirates as part of the Ke’Bryan Hayes deal at the trade deadline in 2025, where he moved from Single-A Bradenton to the Grasshoppers.
