Pete Alonso’s rough night at the plate got worse when he whiffed for a third time Wednesday night and took his frustration out on his bat, as he snapped it over his leg as he walked back to the dugout.
It was the second time the first baseman wasn’t able to come through in a critical situation against the Red Sox, as Alonso also struck out with the bases loaded with no one out in the bottom of the first.
Alonso was bailed out by Jesse Winker, who followed with a grand slam.
In the eighth, with the Mets up by a run, Alonso came up with runners on first and second and went down swinging again — and his bat paid for it.
