It will be built brick by brick.
Minecraft will soon be a theme park attraction at a to-be-announced location in the United States.
Microsoft-owned Mojang, creators of the best-selling video game, will partner with British amusement giant Merlin Entertainments, operator of New York’s Legoland and Madame Tussauds — along with countless attractions across the pond.
This will be Merlin’s first time joining forces with a video game — one also being turned into a potential Hollywood blockbuster starring Jason Momoa, to be released next spring.
Minecraft’s new building team is investing $110 million to open the U.S. park along with another location in the United Kingdom between 2026 and 2027, according to a statement released by Merlin.
Details were limited, but the “first-of-its-kind” concept will reportedly lean into Minecraft-themed food and retail “alongside exciting experiences — including a Minecraft-themed ride.”
“Minecraft is the best-selling video game of all time, and this world-first will see fans experience its thrill and creativity in real life, at theme parks and city-center attractions in leading tourist destinations,” said Merlin CEO Scott O’Neil.
The game said to have more than 173 million active monthly users worldwide as of 2023, everywhere from the Vatican City to Antartica, according to The Guardian.
Eventually, the plan is to expand “to other destinations globally,” a release noted.
“This initial investment is just the beginning,” O’Neil added.
