Nominations for the 2025 Oscars are in, and a select group of movie stars will be going for gold at the 97th annual Academy Awards in a matter of weeks.
Bowen Yang and Rachel Sennott announced the nominees at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Samuel Goldwyn Theater on Thursday, January 23. Emilia Pérez dominated the nominations list with a total of 13, including Best Picture, Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Zoe Saldaña and Best Actress in a Leading Role for Karla Sofía Gascón.
The Brutalist and Wicked tied with 10 total nominations. Both films are up for Best Picture, with stars Adrien Brody, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande earning individual noms.
Joining the three movies in the Best Picture category are Anora, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Dune: Part Two, I’m Still Here, Nickel Boys and The Substance.
The Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 2, at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. Conan O’Brien is set to host the awards show for the first time, joking in a November 2024 statement, “America demanded it and now it’s happening: Taco Bell’s new Cheesy Chalupa Supreme. In other news, I’m hosting the Oscars.”
“We are thrilled and honored to have the incomparable Conan O’Brien host the Oscars this year,” Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang said in a joint press release at the time. “He is the perfect person to help lead our global celebration of film with his brilliant humor, his love of movies and his live TV expertise.”
Their statement continued, “His remarkable ability to connect with audiences will bring viewers together to do what the Oscars do best — honor the spectacular films and filmmakers of this year.”
