It’s safe to say there might not be a bigger fan of Kygo than Peter Weber.
Ahead of the New York City Marathon, presented by New York Road Runners, on Sunday, November 3, the 33-year-old former Bachelor spoke to Us Weekly — and revealed that he’s a “song repeater,” meaning he is only going to have one song playing his headphones for the entire 26.2 miles.
“I’m doing the same song the entire race — Kids in Love by Kygo,” Weber told Us. “It’s my race song. It works for me and it puts me in a very meditative, trance-like state. I kind of go in and out of that — taking in the energy of the city and then right back to in-between the ears.”
While Weber has met the Norwegian DJ and record producer, he thinks Kygo may be surprised to learn he will be listening to his song for anywhere from four and a half to five hours on Sunday.
“I don’t think I’ve ever told him that, but he knows how much I love him,” he said. “I’m a big fan of his music.”
Weber previously ran the NYC Marathon in 2021, finishing at five hours and 17 minutes.
“My first marathon I did was 2021, the first year I was in the city and went into it not really knowing what to expect. I’ve never been a long-distance runner but took on the challenge,” he said. “What I remember feeling after crossing that finish line at the very end was one of the most gratifying and fulfilling feelings — levels of just, like, leveling up and self-confidence that I’d ever felt, honestly, in my entire life.”
The Traitors alum said the feeling of finishing the race is why he is back for 2024.
“You complete something that’s so difficult and what that does for you in every other aspect of your life, it pays dividends over and over and over again,” he explained. “I want to feel that high and it’s just one of the most beautiful feelings I’ve ever felt, and I can’t wait to feel it on Sunday.”
This time will be a little different, however.
“I did absolutely zero training for the first one,” he confessed, comparing himself to Barney from How I Met Your Mother. Teaming up with New York Road Runners and Fabletics, Weber opted to do things the “right way” for round two. “I’ve been super lucky and very grateful for my coach, Lance Parker. He had an incredible workout plan for me for the last couple months. I’ve also been working with Megan Monahan, a mindset meditation coach.”
Weber’s goal for Sunday’s time is four hours and 30 minutes.
“It’s one of the most special days in New York City, and the energy that’s around there, it’s electric, it’s unreal,” he said. “It’s a balance of enjoying it and having fun, which is definitely gonna be the focus for me. But also it’s an opportunity to really push yourself and challenge yourself. And that’s where the time aspect comes in. I’m really competitive just by my nature, but with myself as well. So I picked four and a half at the thought that it was a manageable time. It’s gonna be pushing it, obviously, and be hurting by the end of it.”
Weber, the season 24 Bachelor, won’t be the only member of Bachelor Nation on the course on Sunday. Season 25 star Matt James is looking to cross the finish line in under three hours.
“I just saw Matt, like, two weeks ago. We were at the Seahawks game up in Seattle, so we were talking about our prep and everything. He’s gonna kill it — he [is] just built different,” Weber said of the former college football player. “He’s in incredible shape. We’ve been talking, giving each other some tips and motivation.”
Weber’s fellow Bachelorette season 15 alum and BFF Dustin Kendrick is also running on Sunday along with Bachelorette season 16 star Tayshia Adams and Bachelor in Paradise alum Joe Amabile.
“It’ll be cool to see the guys out there on the race track,” Weber said. “And we’ll see who gets probably the second fastest time. Because I don’t think anyone’s beating Matt!”
