Comparing a quarterback’s interceptions to food has become a popular way to poke fun at particularly ugly passes.
Unfortunately for Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert, his persistent struggles have created several such food references.
This includes when Tom Brady accused him of throwing a “meatball sub” on live television during the Chargers’ game against the Bills.
Rams safety Quentin Lake, who picked off Herbert during the Rams’ 24-9 win against the 0-7 Chargers this past weekend, roasted the quarterback with another food diss.
“I mean, [Herbert] was throwing deli meat out there. He’s seeing ghosts, I’m not going to lie,” Lake said with a laugh during his appearance on the “St. Brown Podcast.”
“Bro, I don’t know what’s going on, but we knew we were getting a couple,” he added.
Herbert has been the butt of many jokes this season — and for good reason.
But it’s one thing for fans to roast Herbert about his mediocre performances. It’s another thing for one of his peers to do so on a podcast, where the whole world can hear about it.
Herbert has thrown five touchdown passes compared with 10 interceptions this season.
That’s a lot of deli meat being thrown around the field that defenders like Lake are getting to eat.
