The NCAA’s decision to add a year of eligibility for players without grandfathering it into last year’s seniors has created the possibility for late roster additions, and St. John’s isn’t sitting that out.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Johnnies received a commitment from Indiana transfer Reed Bailey, a 6-foot-10 big man who can play both center and power forward. Bailey should strengthen a somewhat thin bench short on college experience.
“We think he fits in perfectly for what we need. He’s a veteran basketball player,” coach Rick Pitino told The Post in a phone interview. “He has seen it all, done it all, and he knows how to play in a motion offense. He has good size. He really knows how to play the game.”
A spot opened up for the Johnnies when European high school prospect Gildas Gimenez was ruled academically ineligible.
