Grayson Waller is rightfully getting his WWE second chance and running with it.

The 36-year-old Aussie star is already proving he was the perfect person to win the NXT championship at Heatwave last weekend and that he’s treating the opportunity with the urgency it deserves, starting with his surprise “pipe bomb” opening the show on July 28. It feels unlikely the brash Waller would get a third chance if this doesn’t go well.

Waller was one of the most entertaining performers on NXT television during his first run with the brand from 2021-23 and got off to a solid main roster start — getting his own talk show “The Grayson Waller Effect,” winning tag team gold with Austin Theory and doing some fun man-on-the-street videos on social media insulting whatever town he was in that week.

He seemed on the path to be WWE’s next mix of the Miz and Nic Nemeth — the versatile player everyone loves to hate who could get any babyface over.
