Ryan Seacrest ran into a major dilemma when it came to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding.
On the Monday, July 6, episode of his syndicated radio show, On Air with Ryan Seacrest, the American Idol host revealed that he was indeed invited to attend the A-list wedding but had to cancel after being booked to host Disney’s coverage celebrating the 250th anniversary of America across its stable of networks, including ABC.
“Travis and Taylor got married. I had to keep a secret from you,” Seacrest, 51, told his cohosts on Monday’s radio broadcast. “It was a confidential invitation to everybody that was invited. So when you were doing your reports about the wedding, I was just on the inside screaming, outside very composed.”
He explained, “I RSVP’d to go, and then Disney hired me to do the 4th of July 250 special on the 3rd and the 4th, so I had to cancel.”
One of Seacrest’s cohosts called the situation a “waste of an invite,” while another said he should have done both.
“I was actually really excited. I was kind of torn,” Seacrest admitted.
“Trust me, I went through the minutes. I couldn’t have done both,” he continued. “And the actual wedding was in the afternoon. But I was so honored and thrilled to be invited.”
Seacrest went on to reveal that he bumped into Swift and Kelce, both 36, after receiving his invitation and confirmed his attendance in person, making his eventual cancellation all the more awkward.
“You know, the irony was, after I RSVP’d to the wedding, I saw them at dinner at a restaurant and we talked about the event — ‘cause we didn’t say [wedding] out loud — and she was like, ‘Oh, it’s going to be so much fun. We’re gonna have the best time. It’s gonna go late,’” he recalled. “I’m like, ‘I cannot wait. I’m so excited.’ I met Travis for the first time, actually. He was sitting in the booth next to me.”
“I RSVP’d yes. I saw them a couple of weeks later to confirm. Then I had to cancel,” Seacrest added. “But I had no choice. It’s part of my job at Disney to do these things.”
While Seacrest wasn’t among the 1,000 who celebrated Swift and Kelce’s union at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Friday, July 3, the couple had plenty of star power at their wedding.
The couple’s ceremony was officiated by comedian Adam Sandler, Swift’s rep confirmed to Us Weekly last week, while guests included Swift’s BFF Selena Gomez and her husband, Benny Blanco, Lena Dunham, Gigi Hadid and boyfriend Bradley Cooper, Ed Sheeran, Sombr and more.
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, who was among the guests, recently revealed the sweet advice Sandler, 59, gave the couple as they said “I do.”
“He told them to ‘keep kissing,’” Reid told reporters on Sunday, July 5. “In its simplest form … it’s hard to argue when you give your wife a kiss or your wife gives you a kiss. And make sure to do it every day.”
