Mayor Zohran Mamdani is “keeping the faith” as his hometown Mets are facing a historic losing streak — with many fans pointing the finger at “Mayor Mambino” for cursing the team with a Mr. Mets hug.
“There’s a lot of baseball to be played,” Hizzoner said at an unrelated press conference on Tuesday. “I’m still keeping the faith as I know that many Mets fans are across the city.”
“I will accept being addressed as Mayor Mambino for the day,” he joked, referring to The New York Post’s front page on Tuesday.
The Mets dropped their 11th straight on Sunday, marking the longest losing streak in team history.
Mamdani infamously hugged the team’s mascot on April 9, and since, the Mets have lost 10 consecutive games.
Pressed on if he will do anything to help out the floundering squad, Mamdani said he will keep wearing his Mets hat.
“I’m going to send all the best wishes to the team,” he added.
