President Trump has blasted comedian Bill Maher for being “defenseless and totally deficient” during his interview with California Gov. Gavin Newsom.
Trump — who previously sued Maher for failing to pay him $5 million for proving he was not the offspring of an orangutan — wrote online Saturday that the talk-show comedian was “weak and ineffective” at holding the lefty Dem’s feet to the fire.
“Last night, I happened to watch Gavin Newscum, an admittedly Low IQ person, who said he can’t read a speech, is dumb, and essentially, incompetent, and he took Bill Maher ‘over the coals,’” Trump said on Truth Social.
“Either [Maher] didn’t have the knowledge, or he choked, because Gavin went on and on about how good California is doing, while it’s doing very poorly, having, by far, the worst year it’s ever had where, for the first time in History, more people are leaving than coming,” Trump said.
Maher, who made his claim to fame as a liberal comedian, has lurched toward the center in recent years and prevoiusly voiced some skepticism over how California has been managed.
During his interview with the Golden State governor, Maher delivered his version of grilling Newsom.
“Are they going to say good about gas prices? Are they going to say good about how high the rents are?” Maher asked Newsom, referring to his California constituents. “There’s a whole litany. I mean the train. Gavin, you got to get rid of the train.”
The “Real Time” host, a California native, has long complained about the Golden State’s sky-high taxes and burdensome regulatory regime.
But Trump said Maher did little to rein in Newsom, who talked over him and extolled California.
“Bill Maher is a weak and ineffective person who I got to know very well during my dinner with him at the White House,” Trump said in his lengthy Truth Social screed, referring to the pair’s tet-a-tet last year.
“He was nervous, scared, and the first words he uttered as he entered the Oval Office were, ‘Can I have a drink?’
“It was very endearing but, at the same time, absolutely pathetic.”
Trump and Maher got together through musician Kid Rock after an appearance the singer had on the comedian’s “Club Random” podcast.
In response to the blistering Truth Social post, Newsom’s sassy social-media account boasted that his interview with Maher caused a presidential “meltdown.”
