Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Braydon Fisher is remembering his father, Norm Fisher, after his sudden death on Monday, July 6, while on a road trip with the team. He was 62. “He was an amazing person,” Braydon, 25, told reporters when he rejoined the team on Wednesday, July 8. “I’ve heard you say this about myself, and he always loved when you all said this, but there was never a bad day for Norm. His name was Norm. There was never a bad day for him. He was always happy, cheerful and willing to help anybody. He loved people. He…

Tyreek Hill’s return to NFL action could take longer than originally anticipated. The star receiver, who played for the Dolphins last year, is currently without a team as he continues rehabbing from his knee injury, which he suffered last September in Week 4. The devastating injury included serious damage to his ACL, MCL, PCL and patella. Bleacher Report’s James Palmer had a grim outlook on the potential for Hill’s upcoming return. “There still is, to my understanding, no guarantee that Tyreek Hill plays in 2026,” Palmer said on his podcast late last month. “I think it’s wishful thinking.” The eight-time…

For the first time, physicists have built a working version of quantum mechanics without complex numbers — numbers that have been considered essential to the theory for nearly a century.Complex numbers combine a regular “real” number with an “imaginary” one — a multiple of the square root of -1, represented by the symbol i — into a single value, like 3 + 4i. The square root of -1 doesn’t correspond to any quantity you could count or measure directly (you can’t have negative one apple, for instance), which is why mathematicians call it imaginary.Still, complex numbers have many useful applications.…

Wall Street giant Goldman Sachs has barred employees from trading on prediction-market contracts linked to financial markets and political events, a source familiar with the matter said on Thursday. A memo was issued some time back in which the policy prohibits staff from participating in event-based contracts that could create real or perceived conflicts of interest with the bank, its clients or the broader financial industry. Bloomberg News, which first reported the policy, said repeated violations could result in disciplinary action, including termination, and that employees may be required to forfeit gains from prohibited trades. The restrictions do not apply to prediction-market…

San Francisco voters will decide whether the city should have a public bank after city supervisors this week approved such a proposal to appear on the November ballot. The city would be the first in the nation to have a municipal government-owned bank. Only the state of North Dakota runs a major public bank in the nation. But the city’s proposal gives no answer as to where the estimated $325 million in start-up costs will come from as the city faces a $643 million budget deficit. “In a moment like this, asking voters to commit San Francisco to potentially running…

T-Mobile is hanging up on a popular perk, and customers are calling foul. This month, the phone giant announced it’s “retiring” over 1,100 older legacy payment plans — specifically, many from its 3G and 4G eras — and automatically switching customers to its higher-tier offerings in the T-Mobile Experience lineup beginning on July 13. That includes T-Mobile users who switched over from Magenta, Simple Choice, ONE, and Sprint plans that carried over when T-Mobile and Sprint merged in 2020. The company’s beloved KickBack discount — $10 off per line for low data usage — will also be discontinued, adding $6…

Justin Baldoni and his wife, Emily Baldoni, found solace in their shared faith following their lengthy legal drama. “We are healing, and if you’ve ever been through something traumatic, you know that healing isn’t linear,” Justin, 42, said in a Wednesday, July 8, social media video, making his first comments since his lawsuit with Blake Lively was settled. “It looks different every day, and we have had to rethink for ourselves what is real and what matters and it’s this, it’s our family, it’s our friends, it’s our community [who] have been there for us, it’s our faith.” Justin and…

Let’s stop with the CM Punk hate.  Too much of the discourse this week was about Punk turning into The Rock and everything he hated in 2013 when the “Brahma Bull” swept in from Hollywood to beat him for the WWE championship and headline WrestleMania 29 to put over John Cena during a short run. It was his last until WrestleMania 40. The Rock was away from WWE for seven years before his return in 2011.  Still others — even MJF in a since-deleted Instagram post — pointed to Hulk Hogan getting Vince McMahon to call an audible and put…
